"I prefer a painting to communicate on several levels. First, the image and story content should elicit some emotional response from the viewer. Secondly, the paint itself, the forms and color, the motion and passion of the artist in producing the work, should pull in the viewer. Third, the painting should be not so finished, so real and complete, that it is impossible for the viewer to contribute to it. The painting should be constantly in the process of creation. A painting is itself. It’s not a reflection or duplication of reality. It’s a communication between me and you."
