The Odyssey Student Worksheet Pack

The Odyssey Student Worksheet Pack

Four flexible student worksheets for tracking Odysseus's journey and its consequences, xenia and hospitality, identity and recognition, and character development across Homer's Odyssey. Designed for use throughout the poem and includes a free printable student PDF for classroom use.

By Richer Resources Editorial Team

This four-part student worksheet pack gives teachers flexible, ready-to-print tools for use throughout Homer's Odyssey. The worksheets help students track important patterns across the poem while emphasizing evidence, choices, consequences, and interpretation rather than simple plot recall.

Teachers may use the worksheets individually, assign different trackers to different groups, or use the complete set as a running companion to the poem. Suggested episodes and reading sections provide structure while leaving the analytical work to students.

What's Included

1. Journey & Consequences Tracker

Track the major stages of Odysseus's journey. For each episode, identify what happens, an important choice made by Odysseus or his crew, the consequence of that choice, and what the episode reveals about leadership, judgment, temptation, or homecoming.

2. Xenia / Hospitality Tracker

Xenia is the Greek ideal of guest-friendship and hospitality. Compare how hosts and guests behave in important encounters. Decide whether the relationship honors or violates xenia, and explain the consequence.

3. Identity, Disguise & Recognition Tracker

The Odyssey repeatedly hides, tests, and reveals identity. For each scene, record the disguise or hidden identity, who knows or recognizes the truth, the evidence or sign involved, why concealment or testing matters, and the result.

4. Character Development Tracker

Choose one major character - Odysseus, Penelope, or Telemachus - and follow that character through the poem. In each reading section, identify an important choice or action, the pressure or conflict behind it, what it reveals, and whether the character has changed from earlier in the poem.

Classroom Use

These worksheets can be used during reading, for small-group work, as preparation for discussion or writing, or as review before an assessment. Teachers can assign only the trackers that fit their course, or print multiple copies of the Character Development Tracker to follow Odysseus, Penelope, and Telemachus separately.
